We manufacture a Serial Port for a laptop with a 802.14 "wi-fi" radio/transmitter.
The same item (two required) can be connected to an EMS after being programed to the "bit rate" of that ECU's comm port.
Range@100mW is about a mile, LINE OF SIGHT.

Thus I can "tune/calibrate" from the shop/home/office using the internet to connect to the end user's laptop, then to the car/boat through the wireless USB adapter.

Cost to do this is UNDER $500 USD, affordable by most.

The "app's" are free such as "Logmein.com".

What other apps, conditional problems, recommendations would others have for this method ?

I considered trying one of these usconverters.com/serial-rs232-wi-fi-adapter . You install a virtual com port(http://www.usriot.com/usr-vcom-virtual-serial-software/) on the Windows pc which connects through the pc wifi to the wifi-serial adapter which would connect to the PanteraEFI ECU. Another thought was a ESP8266 serial to wifi board connected directly internally to the uart in the PanteraEFI, but this would take more brains than I can muster and I wouldn't want to risk messing up the ECU.

I like the idea of the Bluetooth adaptor it does not have the distance that a Wi-Fi would but I feel it could work well at the engine dyno or the chassis Dyno link provided below thoughts???

I couldn't see any mention of being able to create a virtual com port on your pc with the Bluetooth adapter, this might be a problem making it work with with the ECU882 software. That was what was interesting with the wifi one, ECU882 would just be connecting to what it thinks is a COM port on your pc, which is actual a virtual one linking through the wifi to the wifi-serial-adapter.

cheers,

I have a vinyl cutter that runs off a serial port I have been wanting to get a wireless option for so it would be nice to get something to double duty.

Would this work in order to connect the laptop to the ECU via WiFi?
