The telecomms(PABX) business has been playing the same game for years.
You buy yourself a piece of hardware that has the capability to do just about anything. The firmware and software is all there but you need to buy a license (a key) to unlock whatever part of it you want. Then later on you find you want more features and need to buy another license.
What we found with this marketing approach years ago , is that second hand hardware is pretty much worthless (afterall, modern hardware costs pretty much nothing to make, it's all in the R and D). Once it's sold second hand, if you can't reactivate your licence to reprogramme from a fresh start, you'll need to pay for a new license.
I guess from a business point of view, it's good but maybe not so much so for the customers in the longrun. You always get what you pay for? You'll pay a lot.

I don't think you'll ever slow down the true DIY crowd either. That marketing approach won't work with them.

Typical for the telecomms market was that the first release of software always has bugs in it, they get found through field testing.
Then a software upgrade comes out, fixes those but causes at least 3 more problems. By release 5 of software, things might start to work right, so there's no point in rushing into doing things too soon.

The actual ecu retailer, or the manufacturer wont offer the support ?

Well obviously the man to speak to for the Motec in the UK is Dave Rowe.

http://www.epsmotorsport.com/

So give him a shout and see if he can sort you out.

Or you could maybe raise a query either on this forum or another suitable forum about the issues with your current ecu to see if someone can steer you in the right direction

From other posts though, I presume the current ecu is LR ?

Maybe try Sam@tdi from this forum, or Paul at Zen Performance. Both would be familiar with the setup.
Or Jack now uses Syvecs too on his bikes.
