This is all I have been able to find:

http://www.motec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=531

The Beru document linked in the above post says the coil has a diagnostic output, so I assume that is pin 2.

MS3 forum user jalai posted links to coil current tests:
http://msextra.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=131&t=40731&start=79

He may know the function of pin 2.

Thanks for any information.

I'm pretty sure that pin 2 is secondary ground (ground at anyvay). Someone could verify this from Porsche wiring diagram.

Coil diagnostic passes through the input pin (pin 4) and it does not affect the normal operation.

Thanks very much for your reply.

According to the Beru document, the diagnostic is an 18ma load, though I measured 13ma.

The ECU can measure its output signal level and deduce if the signal wire to the coil is open, shorted, or normal.

I installed a 100 Ω series resistor to pin 4 and measured a 1.3v drop across it.
