Sport Compact Car - June 2004
EFI University: Gotta Start at 101
With the proliferation of electronic controls in the automobile, the art of tuning has largely evolved from grinding bits and twisting screwdrivers to the use of custom computers and fancy software. Making more power in a modern vehicle means picking the right parts for the right reasons, then telling a computer how best to deal with things.

Tuning for the Weather
In theory, aftermarket electronic fuel injection (EFI) systems based on speed density metering should self compensate for changes in the weather. ("Self-compensate" means automatic fuel- and spark-curve corrections based on weather changes; it does not mean that engine output remains constant!)

OverRev - August/September 2004
EFI University: EFI-101
Ben Strader's EFI-101 presentation left no child behind, fielding tough questions from the more advanced students and using them as a way to illustrate basic concepts for the beginners in the class. The real fun began on day two, when the information presented in the classroom session was converted into glorious sound and fury on the chassis dyno.

Engine Masters - Fall 2004
At EFI University, Tuning is Fundamental
"There's a lot of misinformation out there, and just because a guy can afford to put in a dyno and put up a sign in his window saying he's a tuner, doesn't mean that he's qualified to do so." This eye-opening instruction came on a cold March morning in the shop bays of XX Tuning in Wethersfield, Connecticut.

GM High-Tech - October 2004
Just Got Schooled
The majority of EFI-101 is set up to get you up to speed on the basics, but the end of the class is live demonstration that pulls together much of what you learn. We witnessed the actual dyno tuning process on Instructor Geoffrey Ring's 540-rwhp Porsche Turbo.

Chevy High Performance - March 2005
Education Injection
The EFI-101 course binder is the basis of the one-and-a-half-day seminar's lessons, expanded on, of course, by Senior Instructor, Ben Strader's comments, illustrations, and guidance. More than a textbook, though, this binder also provides a wealth of information for future endeavors...
