Does anyone know how to make a cam/crank sensor simulator with variable speed to bench test standalone ecu,s i have a life f88 and want to do some boost bench simulations i run 24-2 crank mag sensor, and hall cam sensor,
i have heard it can be done by recording the signal. _________________ fastest hayabusa outside the usa 7.31@203.3mph |

I dont know how to make one,out of my league.
However i own and use a TF ELECTRONICS Signal Generator.
Works great. |

Jimstim is a very good tool for the money. It can do nearly all trigger patterns (inc 24-2) out of the box and you can program custom patterns with the optional cable. As well it will simulate TPS, coolant temps etc at the same time. http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/jimstim-15-megasquirt-stimulator-wheel-simulator-assembled-p-178.html
Another option, google "signalgen.zip" and you will find Rayhalls old application that can generate trigger signals using a parallel port (if you have a PC that still has one!)
The Megasquirt guys also have an application which generates and records an audio trigger signal which you can loop and play to your ECU through a sound card but I never had much succes getting that to work. http://www.megamanual.com/router/crankwheelpulser.htm
Best option is the Jimstim by far. |

Ray has also posted here before about his ecu simulator, Autosim which looks like a great product.
But the Jimstim is a much more basic version I guess...and of course much cheaper. _________________ LS1, V7 YSi

I will check if 24-2 is a test pattern or not.
The Autosim you are referring to is an ECU test unit, capable of generating a variety of signals for testing ECU's enabling you to test aux outputs, inj o/p,ign o/p, testing the ECU for faults etc.
You connect the ECU to the Autosim.
The signal generator i am referring to is purely for replicating different trigger outputs for testing.
You connect the signal generator to the trigger inputs on the ECU for testing.
This unit is alot smaller and is alot cheaper than the Autosim. |

all i want to do is feed in crank/cam signal to make the ecu think the engine is running, everything else is on the bike connected in realtime it could be something as simple as a drill with a rotor and pickup. _________________ fastest hayabusa outside the usa 7.31@203.3mph |

| Remove all the spark plugs and use a 24v Pro Stock starter cart:) OR find a Honda Dizzy from any B series. Should have 1,4 and 24 teeth. Chuck it up in a die grinder and spin away. |

I've chucked a Bosch dizzy into a cordless drill before, mount the entire mess to a plywood board. Don't forget to take a picture of it ,as it's quite interesting to car other geeks. I did this when I was making a dwell box to convert an SM2 CDI input to a dwell/module driver.
I shoulda framed the whole rube-goldburg and mounted it to a wall. _________________ www.circuitse7en.net

I think I recall Matt or someone else posting a video of an electric motor with a trigger wheel mounted on it for 20krpm testing
Obviously functional.....but could have been nasty if the trigger wheel had come of the motor !!!! _________________ LS1, V7 YSi

Yes, the final version had a 1/2" steel scatter shield around the wheel and a thick Lexan top. _________________ Matt at DIY Autotune |
