Hi, I'm new.

I have an '82 Camaro with an L98 and an Accel Gen 6 ECM. The car runs fine except for a wavering idle, and it will stick around 2K RPM when coming to a stop unless the throttle is blipped (and then it goes back to the wavering idle).

Anyway, when trying to tune using the Calmap program, I get an "Echo Mismatch" message which means the ECM and laptop aren't communicating. Accel support says I need a crappy old 486 laptop with Windows 95, which I am using.

On a Camaro forum, someone suggested messing with the COM settings, which I did, and it actually worked for about a minute before the crappy laptop mysteriously shut down. When I started it back up and got the Calmap program running again, went back to getting the "Echo Mismatch" message no matter what COM setting I tried.

Accel doesn't support the Gen 6 program at all -- not even new cables for the ECM-laptop connection -- and all but said "Plop down $1700 for the latest EFI system."

Anybody have any tips or tricks to workaround this?

Pat

I would be interested in your report, we too have problems with old laptops and USB.

First find "Device Manager", comm ports, then port settings.
Set to bit rate to the highest value, flow control to X on/off, leave the others.

Go to "advanced", set some wait states or turn off the FIFO's.

This could allow your GUI to respond.

Your problems are with the com port settings and yes you do have to use a Windows 95 or older for this to work.

I build the Gen 6 comm cables still for people. 9 times out of 10 the com port is configured incorrectly or is being used by another program.
