I am searching for a short and compact coil to use direct on the sparkplugs.
Have found some from BMW, but they are a little to long. Its for a na engine, and spark energy is not the most important issue.
Appreciate any tips.

AEM has some new COP that just came out. Looks similar to the Denso bike coils.

Coil with integrated driver, widely used in Audi's and VW's:

VAG 1.8T COP VAG 06B905115R

Must take care of how it is connected and how the wires are routed, otherwise will produce some serious electrical noise.

And other modules used in Renault, Peugeot and almost all of japs today. Most of them are quite good but nothing more than that.

There is another VAG coil what is a little smaller than 1,8T coil.

It is 1,4/1,6 16V (FSI)
VAG 036 905 100 or VAG 036 905 715.
Operation is nearly same than 1,8T coil. Connection IS NOT identical!!

Charge current vs. dwell time curves (not original VAG coils) here
1,8T (coil length ~170mm, weigth ~215g)
