Hi folks, first post here.
After years of searching i picked up a 'turn-key' rolling road for a very reasonable price. Purchase included: large fan, rollers+ RAM X/I cabinate, Sun Engine analyser, Sun Gas analyser, brand new load cell for an XI/2 (presumably bought at one time to upgrade the pot'/spring based torque sensor?) and the PC based Dynoplot system.
Anyway, the PC that runs the dynoplot wont boot but, Ive managed to pull the software off the HD. There is an old DOS version of Dynoplot which runs, but the newer version is missing files/un registered files .OCX file. I take this to be because im running the .EXE on a pc was not installed to that version of windows.
I have a parallel port 'Dongle' which i presume is for the Dynoplot software, the 'milford microsystems' ADC card, wiring for hand controller and X/Y output from the RAM control panel, instruction manual and a Dynoplot floppy with some software called K-Soft (boots in DOS and seems to be some sort of mapping program.) I do not have a floppy for the dynoplot software
The wiring needed some T.L.C. there were several broken wires where the cable had spun in the hand controller and broken off, and the 15 pin 'D' connector had 2 broken cores under the hellerman sleeving.
i have belled out all the terminals on the leads so will assume this will now be ok until i have plugged it all in. I have recorded the pin outs for future reference.
So, if you're still with me i have a couple of questions:
The connection from the ADC to the RAM cabinate has a 3-pin plug which is different. The core colours i have are pin1=Blue,pin2=White, pin3=Yellow.
Can anyone identify them so i can wire up a plug that fits the RAM socket? perhaps they have the pin-outs or can look at their instal and note them for me?
Also, if anyone has a new version of the Dynoplot software i would be greatful for a copy so i can do a fresh install on a new PC.
Im trying to get everything sorted in a fashion so that when ive connected up the rollers, i know where iam if something doesnt work.
Thank You,
Fraser

Ive discovered that the my RAM 11 only measures 0-10V on each X/Y scale, but the RAM12 measures -10 to 10V.
I guess this means the RAM 12 can measure run down losses but the RAM 11 cant?
im pretty bummed about this discovery. Does anyone know if im right in what im saying, and if i am how can i modify it to measure rundown losses. From what ive seen, the dynoplot software just works out a percentage loss for the drivetrain and adds the loss to the final reading.
if it turns out that the cheapest way will be to upgrade to a RAM12 cabinet then thats an option i would consider if i could get hold of one. i would find it a shame to ditch everything else and upgrade.
will it really make a difference? obviously it will for some things, but will variables such as gear box and tyre temps make the readings so in consistant that it would be useless for tuning and repeatable trends? or are things relatively constant once everythings up to temp?
please discuss....
Cheers,
Fraser |
