|
|
Hi - I'm new here, first post. I am installing the Dynatek CFI 'weber look' system on my 66 Mustang (342 stroker). I am running an MSD 8579 distributor, an MSD 6AL box and MSD blaster 3 coil
I believe the Dynatek supplied ECU is an 882. The installation instructions state to connect the green/yellow wire in the supplied wiring loom to the white (points) wire on the MSD6. The magnetic pickup wires from the MSD 6 to the MSD distributor are not to be connected to each other.
Could somebody please help me by explaining the theory behind this?. I'm new to EFI conversions and don't understand why the 2 magnetic pickup wires in the distributor are not connected to the MSD6 box, and how the distributor is triggered.
Thanks in advance. |

there is a section on here for the 882, see if you can send a message to Lance Nist "PanteraEFI"
best of luck _________________ Dyno Developments

Lance Nist can clarify if I state this wrong, but this is how I believe it to be….
The MSD ignition can either be triggered by the magnetic pickup wires (I believe they are purple and green) or by the single white wire (either from points or some other control box that creates an on/off pulse for this wire).
If you were to connect the distributor to the MSD 6, I believe the ignition would operate fine, however your ignition curve would be solely dictated by whatever method that distributor uses. (Centrifugal only or also vacuum) By having the ECU control the ignition, this gives you more tuning abilities.
Do you also have a crank sensor, or is your system solely triggered by the distributor? I do not know if the 882 can be triggered only by a distributor? This is where Lance or someone else will have to add their wisdom! If it is only triggered by the distributor, then hooking the distributor to the MSD box would not allow the ECU to know when to fire the injectors.
Hope this helps and didn’t make it worse! _________________ Jeff Rogers
